LJMU’s Student TV Show returns for 2nd Series!
LJMU’s Student TV Show ‘This Afternoon’ will return on Monday 17th September for the beginning of what promises to be a fun stacked, action-packed second series.
The initial concept was created in March 2017, when we approached several members of the course team about creating a magazine TV Show in our fantastic TV studio facility. After discussions with lecturers and the technical staff, the approval was given and we were off the ground running with additional technical training in our spare time. After weeks of preparation September 2017 was the launch of the student show and since then we have never looked back. By July 2017, we had established our own format which replicates the conventions of traditional magazine TV but with a student twist. We like to trial and error a lot of what we do on camera in the actual shows because then it gives us an idea of what is popular with our audience. For example, alongside our many interviews, the success of the game Pie Face on our Christmas episode was the key in rethinking the second part of the show which we now dedicate solely to a games item as chosen by the production team and since we’ve played twister using the overhead camera and the green screen and of course countdown where we went to town with sound effects, props and of course … a costume for Carol word-a-minute. Everything production wise is ran by students from all levels of academic study with a range of skills varying from pre-production, production management, production and post-production. Technical support is regularly provided by Kelly Loughlin & James Traynor from the Liverpool Screen School. If you want to get involved please email me on (p.a.carter@2016.ljmu.ac.uk)
Looking ahead to the 2nd Series I am delighted to be joined on screen by our newest addition to the family, 3rd Year Journalism student Kerry Norman who is replacing outgoing presenter Josh McDowell. Our Freshers 2018 episode will be posted on our Youtube Channel on Monday 17th September 2018 at 12.30pm and the lineup is possibly one of my favourites! We’ll be joined by popular Youtuber and 3rd Year Film Studies student Sophie Ray Evans (1.4k Subscribers), President of John Moores Students Union Angelina Cliff who’ll be chatting all things Freshers events, campaigns and societies! Plus we are debuting a new item ‘Phil’s Phone in’ which sees Phil Bakstad (Quizmaster at Font Bar Liverpool & LJMU Student Advice) taking your ‘calls’ on freshers dilemmas! And to end the show well… let’s just the game is one which will quite possibly leave us ‘jaw-dropped’! So with all that and more do make sure you join us for LJMU This Afternoon’s Freshers Special on Monday 17th September 2018 at 12.30pm.
