LJMU Go Global 2018

Posted by sarah Haynes on April 12, 2018 in Engagement with Industry, Events, Public Engagement, Student Activity

What is the Go Global scheme? The fund encourages students to broaden their horizons and enhance their employability by undertaking an international activity outside of their programme of study. Students can get funding for individual projects, volunteering or working abroad up to a maximum amount of £1500.

This years visit was to the Communications Department of Southern Connecticut State University, to network with students on courses in media, advertising and communications. The students explored the international aspects of media production and discovered more about the media industries in the US. Here are some of the testimonies from the trip:

“Flying out to the U.S. with LJMU Media Production as part of the Go Global scheme was a phenomenal experience for me. In the week we travelled through four states and explored all walks of life. During this time, I obtained a huge amount of knowledge about film making, camera operation and editing. I couldn’t have asked for a more valuable experience.” – Tom Jones, Level 5.

“During the course of the week I became far more comfortable behind a camera than I ever had been before. I learnt more about lighting and filming on the go while on this trip than I have from any other project I have been apart of. This is something that means a lot to me as I feel way more well-rounded as a filmmaker than I did previously; as I usually focused on post-production.” – Will Simpson, Level 6.

“I had the most amazing experience with LJMU Go Global. Visiting four states across seven days, we managed to visit New York, New Haven and Boston. In New York City we were able to do loads of things including visiting the Empire State Building, Staten Island and Ground Zero. While out in Boston we saw the New England Holocaust Memorial, which was extremely moving. In Connecticut we went to SCSU and met with students who are currently working with Level 5 Media Production Students and the crew from the SCSU TV Club.” – Kieran Jones, Level 6.
