Royal Television Society Careers Event

Last week third year students attended the RTS careers event – RTS Futures – the ultimate TV careers fair! – https://www.rts.org.uk/careersfair2017

It was a really useful day – with all the main TV companies present to provide advice – a CV surgery to get your CV checked and lots of really interesting talks about the TV industry, how to get that first job and what to expect. There was lots of advice about being flexible and willing to take on a variety of roles, an expectation that people will have multiple skills for entry level jobs. Social media and being able to make and upload content online was seen as a really useful skillset to have. Doing the homework before interviews – so for any company you know their output and can talk knowledgeably about all the programmes they’ve made at an interview – a panel of industry experts said was essential.
